(Almost) every Friday, I share a handful of my favorite things from around the web and around the world. Enjoy!
I signed up for my first marathon yesterday – more details on that coming soon. But I’ve got lots of runner friends, and my Facebook newsfeed is exploding with posts cheering on Boston Marathon runners and photos of the runners themselves visiting the expo and taking in the sights around Boston. So for this week, it seems appropriate to highlight some fun and handy links related to the 118th running of the Boston Marathon.
1. Boston: The Marathon Map
A beautifully illustrated map of one of the most revered running events in all of sport from Cape Horn Illustration. For $29, the artist-signed 12″x18″ print is a bargain if you need a gift for the runner in your life.
2. 2014 Boston Marathon Programming Schedule
If you can’t make it to Boylston Street, tune in to Universal Sports’ live coverage. I’ll be glued to the online stream.
3. The Quick 10: Boston Marathon Facts
Of particular note – it’s not actually called “The Boston Marathon.”
4. How Long is a Marathon, Really?
301,824 Hershey bars – so as long as the worst stomachache known to man. Click through the gallery for more everyday items used to measure out 26.2.
5. Dear World: Boston Marathon
Photos of some of the many victims of last year’s bombings, and their stories, in their own words.
